Did you know there’s an Afro version of Cannes Film Festival called “AfroCannes,” which takes place during the Cannes Film Festival?

Here is all you need to know about AfroCannes and it’s 2022 edition.

AfroCannes is organized annually during the Cannes Film Festival.

The event, which dedicates itself to promoting content, filmmakers and communities from the ‘Afrosphere’ (African natives and Afro-descendants) and the global filmmaking community.

The scheduled date for AfroCannes is May 21, 2022 at the Hotel Le Gray D’Albion in France, to connect films, countries and people.

This year’s edition of will honor Mr. Sydney Poitier’s trailblazing career. While screening some of his most iconic movies, there will be discussions on his work, sacrifice and legacy.

The program features film screenings, country presentations, discussions of film business and trade, alongside a cocktail party.

Speakers at this year’s event will include top-class film professionals like Chioma Ude (Founder of AFRIFF, Nigeria), Danielle Turkov (Think-Film Impact Production founder, UK), Steven Adams (Alta Global Media, USA), Dr. Kiagho Kilonzo (Tanzania Film Board executive director) and Helene Granqvist (President, Women in Film and TV International).

Partners this year include WIFTI (Women in Film & TV International), TFIP (THink FIlm Impact Production) and ENVIVO Com (Nigeria).
