Ghana will host the mid-year statutory meetings of the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) today in Accra.
The announcement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, at a news conference addressing the Minister of Information.
She said that “the Summit will engage the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, the Vice President, Commissioners, support staff, and all Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS with the exception of Mali.”
According to the Minister, the Summit follows the 29th Ordinary Session of the Administration and Finance Committee, whose outcomes will inform the work of the Council of Ministers.
The aforementioned Committees comprise experts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance of ECOWAS Member States.
“In line with the practice of ECOWAS, the sessions this week will deliberate on important regional matters germane to our community. This will include recent political and security developments that have threatened the peace and stability in our region,” Hon. Botchwey stated.
The Agenda for the Sessions will focus on the progress of ECOWAS Institutional Reforms, ECOWAS Vision 2050, and the Status of Tasks assigned by the 85th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers. The ECOWAS African Research and Innovation Forum (FARI) as well as the Humanitarian situation in our region, among others.
Outcomes of the proceedings, according to Hon. Botchwey will include reports of the activities of the ECOWAS Ministers of Trade and Industry, Ministerial Committee on Single Currency, and a New Convergence Pact. The Regional Flood Risk Initiative Management Strategy, a Gender Strategy, and Action Plan for Disaster Reduction will also be reported on.
She said a communique on the decisions reached during the Summit will be issued at the end of proceedings.

Tuesday, June 15 – 46th Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council at the Ministerial Level
June 16 to 17 – 86th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers
Saturday, June 19 – 59th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.
